Future Plans

Isolation ward

Due to space restrictions within Ward 10 our Burkitt’s patients share with children suffering from a variety of illnesses. The lowered immunity of our patients often results in their catching these illnesses, some of which can be life-threatening.

Isolation Ward

We have therefore established an isolation ward for children with cancer which is entirely funded and equipped by PACK donations. We are still hoping to decorate it so it is more homely for the children.

Outreach

Parents of Burkitt’s sufferers in the outlying rural areas often delay in taking their child to their local clinic because of ignorance of the disease. Many resort to traditional medicine. This means that referrals to the Coast General Hospital are haphazard and it is unclear as to how many children die because their condition is left undiagnosed.

Outreach

Given sufficient funds we are committed to developing an outreach program in the coastal region that spreads knowledge of the disease and encourages parents to bring their children in sooner rather than later

Other cancers

Other cancers

Children suffering from terminal cancer are often referred to the Coast General Hospital. Sadly, due to a lack of funds, we have been unable to assist the hospital in providing any kind of treatment or palliative care to these patients, but have concentrated our resources on the more treatable Burkitt’s Lymphoma cases.

We would dearly love to be able to assist in the treatment and care of all child cancer sufferers, even if that care is sometimes limited to simply making the final days of life more bearable for a terminal patient.
